I create work in response to my surroundings, exploring how it feels to be immersed in nature, feeling the sun on my face, the wind in my hair, the solid ground beneath my feet, my hands in the earth, my body held by the ocean.
I find that keeping a slow and mindful art practice has helped me notice and appreciate all that is still good and beautiful in our increasingly frantic and noisy world. Creativity has become medicine for my soul, I find it brings me some peace and that is what I want to share.
There are three main influences in my work at the moment:
Living in Cornwall for the last 30 years is an obvious first: the light, the unspoilt wild places, the sea, being in it and its endless distant horizon.
The second is Japan; though I’ve only visited twice, it had a profound effect on my aesthetic senses: the landscape, the ancient watercolours, the calligraphy, the printmaking, their attention to detail, zen like gardens, haiku poetry, I could go on…
The third is my own garden and all that grows within it, how it holds space for me and connects me to the seasons; keeps me active as well!

I find myself constantly stealing glances … looking gorgeous in the sun.
Thank you so much for my beautiful painting Jane. It looks amazing at the top of the stairs. I love it and will cherish it always.
